Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud attended the funeral of former French President Jacques Chirac in Paris on Monday morning.

Emmanuel Macron, President of France followed the coffin carrying the demised Chirac’s body at Saint-Sulpice church in central Paris where other world leaders attending included President Vladimir Putin of Russia, Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, EU commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker and former US President Bill Clinton.

The day was declared national day of mourning in France for the president who served the country from 1995-2007 ‍and died last Thursday at 86.

Minister Dr. Hasan had arrived early morning in Paris, as he departed Dhaka Sunday evening at the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to represent Bangladesh. He is expected to return Wednesday morning.
