Panic  in  Sylhet division.

The incidents of attacks on houses, temple and killing of an UP member were reported in different upazilas of Sylhet division in the recent times.
The local minority community is passing their days in panic.

Sources said that a group of miscreants set a blaze at a Kali temple in the village Nowagoan of Kompaniganj upazila under Sylhet district on February -14.

Two houses were ransacked by a group religious zealots at village Marsha addha Ghoshega in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet district on February -13 over derogatory religious sentiments.

It’s learnt that a speaker named Md. Ismail Mollah made a speech against the religious sentiments of hindu community at a religious gathering of Khadimul Islam Madania Madrasa at Ghoshgram village in Golapganj upazila under Sylhet district. Hearing this derogatory speech local people of the hindu community brought the matter to the notice of local elite including the guardians of the Muslim community. but a group of religious zealots from the gathering attacked two houses of teacher Nirmal Das and Late teacher Sudansu respectively and ransacked those houses . The local police on receiving the information rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The Baniachang Police recovered the dead body of an UP Member from the bank of Faruk Miah’s pond at pakura village in Baniachanj upazila of Habiganj district on February -11.
The dead was identified as Arun Das (60), a member of ward no 8 of Pukara union and ward general secretary of the ruling Awami League.

According to police and family sources, Arun Das went to attend in a religious festival in Kabirpur village on February -10.
In the evening, he also talked with his over mobile phone.
Since then on, he was no longer in contact with the family.
Jagdish Das, his nephew of the victim found his dead body lying beside the bank of pond while he was going to work in hoar on Tuesday.
Jagdish Das later informed the police.

Md. Anwar Hossain, chairman of Pukara Union Parishad, said that Arun did not return home after attending in the religious festival and his dead body was found on Tuesday morning nearby a pond. He also said his left eye had been uprooted and multiple injuries were found in his body.

The Police on receiving information rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for autopsy.

The high officials of Habiganj district Police administration and Baniachong police on receiving the news visited the spot.

In this regard, The Officer-in-Charge of the Baniachong Police Station Ranjan Kumar Samant said, “Initially, it is believed to be a planned murder and an investigation is under way. We hope to be able to unearth the true mystery of the murder soon.

In the recent times a section of bigoted groups has become desperate to provoke a wave of unrest through religious sermons at different gatherings and uploading contents hurting the religious sentiments on facebook.
Their motive is to attack and ransack the houses, loot valuables and religious infrastructures, violate & convert the women forcefully , grab the land properties and compel the minorities to quit.
It’s to be mentioned here that between 2012 and 2019 some communal violence committed from Ramu to Bhola and there was a spate of targeted killings that claimed the lives of secularist writers and bloggers, religious minorities and gay activists.
