“Golden Jubilee”of the Independence held in Turkey

The 50th Anniversary, “Golden Jubilee” of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh was observed with due solemnity and fervor by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Ankara, Turkey on Friday, 26 March 2021 at one of the prestigious Hotel in Ankara. This is a special year of Bangladesh. Government of
Bangladesh has announced 17 March 2020-16 December 2021 as the Mujib Year, which is being observed nationally and internationally.

In the morning, a brief programme was organized at the new Bangladesh Chancery Complex. H.E. Mr. Mosud Mannan ndc, Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey hoisted the national flag at full mast in the presence of officials, Turkish dignitaries and members of Bangladesh community while the National Anthem of Bangladesh was played. The programme continued with recitation from thr Holy Qur’an followed by special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of the Martyrs as well as for peace, prosperity and progress of the Country at the “Victory 1971” auditorium. Messages on the significance of the Independence and National Day received from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read. The programme was followed by the screening of a few documentary films on the background of the independence struggle and liberation war of Bangladesh. Prof. Dr. SelçukÇolakoğlu, Director of Turkish Centre for Asia-Pacific Studies, highlighted the importance of the Day. Afterwards an elaborate speech was made by Ambassador Mannan ndc to mark the Day, followed by
a cultural programme. The morning programme ended with light refreshments.

In the evening, H.E. Ms. Zehra ZümrütSelçuk, Hon’ble Minister of Family, Labour and Social Services attended the National Day Reception at JW Marriott Ankara as Chief Guest. Besides her, a large number of important guests from the Government of Turkey, Members of Diplomatic Corps, Members of International Organizations, Military Officers, Academicians, Business People, Members of Bangladeshi Community and representatives of Media attended the reception amid the pandemic. Every possible precautions were ensured within the framework of pandemic measures.

The evening programme of the Day commenced with playing the National Anthems of both the countries (Turkey and Bangladesh). H.E. Mr. Mosud Mannan ndc, the Ambassador delivered an elaborate speech mentioning the special significance behind celebrating this golden jubilee on the cusp of two other milestones: The Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the graduation of Bangladesh into a developing country. He also paid deepest homage to the three million men and women who lost their lives and remembered with profound gratitude the incalculable sacrifices made by the civil and military population during Bangladesh’s war of Liberation. He also gave brief information on the history, culture and development achieved in last fifty years. H.E. the Ambassador especially thanked the government of His Excellency Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for their cooperation and support in every field to further strengthen the existing relations. In conclusion, H.E. the Ambassador saluted all Bangladeshis on this auspicious day and wished them success, prosperity and good health. Healso thanked all friendly countries for their support.

The programme continued with handing over of crests to the son of Col. Hari Krishna Singh (retd) in appreciation of his praiseworthy contribution during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 and Prof.Dr. SelçukÇolakoğlu for his continued support to Bangladesh Embassy in Ankara.

After the cake cutting ceremony, traditional Bangladesh and Turkish foods and desserts were served to the guests. During the Dinner, members of Bangladesh community played live music with harmonium and guitar. A corner was also set up next to the Ball Room to display the development of Bangladesh in 50 years through a Photography Exhibition. Social gifts were presented to all the attendees. The newly built Embassy Complex was illuminated on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee.
