Today is the 86th birth anniversary of Ali Aksad, former President of
Bangladesh Peace Council. He was also a peace fighter and veteran journalist of Bangla dailies,
Sangbad and Ittefak.He was born in 1st May 1932 at Gadi village of Hawrah district in West
Bengal, India.Ali Aksad, a member of the Communist Party started the movement of
the Bangladesh Peace Council, a chapter of the World Peace Council in country.Aksad, a trusted associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman brought international support during the war of liberation, for
Bangladesh . He worked with Sangbad as the news editor, and as the assistant editor in Ittefaq. In Sangbad his political Column, Dipankar became popular among readers. He was also the editor of the political journal Proshongo till 1975. With many write ups in English and Bangla, he had a Bangla
publication, Mukhor Diganta, a novel on his travel to Srilanka.In 1973, at his initiatives, the World peace Council honoredBangabandhu with the Jolio Curie Medal for peace.
In a gala ceremony at the open square of the parliament, Ramesh Chandra, the then President of the WPC, pinned the medal on Sheikh Mujibor Rahman’s coat amid thousand of participants.
To mark the 43 years of Bangabandhu’s receiving Julio Curie medal , the
Julio Curie bangabandhu Sangsad will hold a ceremony in coming May 25 in
The national Press Club.
Ali Aksad died in Square hospital in capital on 6th march in 2009 due
to pneumonia and old age complications, said a press release.
