New Delhi, Dec.16:– Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi celebrated the Victory Day today on the golden jubilee of great independence of Bangladesh with colourful arrangement.
The mission paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, and remembered the supreme sacrifices of millions of martyrs of the independence war in a solemn celebration of the nation’s historic triumph in the nine-month war against Pakistani occupying forces.
Acting High Commissioner Md. Nural Islam accompanied by officers and staff of the mission, raised the red and green national flag as the national anthem played in the morning.
Acting High Commissioner and others placed wreath at the portrait of the Bangabandhu at the Mission’s Mujib Corner.
Victory day message from President Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out respectively by Shaban Mahmood, Minister (Press), Dr. A.K.M. Atiqul Haque, Minister (Commerce), Mohd Rashedul Amin, Counsellor (Economic), and Md. Abdul Wadud Akanda, Counsellor (Political). Selim Md. Jahangir, Minister (Consular) took part in the discussion.
In this event of victory day, a documentary picture of the journey of prosperity and development of Bangladesh for 50 years was also screened followed by one minute silence and special prayer remembering Bangabandhu and the war martyrs.
In a speech Acting High Commissioner of the Mission Md. Nural Islam praised Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her dynamic and visionary leadership in remarkable transformation of Bangladesh into a middle income country. He said that about 4 lakh children and teenagers were among the great freedom fighters who had significant contribution to achieve the victory. He said that our liberation was not only for political liberation, it was a struggle for over all freedom and liberation in all respect.
He said, today’s Bangladesh is a confident Bangladesh. We are firmly moving forward with a goal of establishing a modern, well educated and developed Bangladesh by 2041.
In the afternoon, the officials of the embassy attended the virtually of the programme of public oath of golden jubilee and Mujib years administered by Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
