Hungarian novelist László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Royal Swedish Academy announced today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 5:00 PM Bangladesh time (12:00 PM GMT) in Stockholm.
According to the Nobel Committee, Krasznahorkai was honoured “for his visionary and haunting literary works that reveal the enduring power of art even in the face of despair.”

Over his illustrious career, he has received several major accolades, including the Man Booker International Prize (2015) and the National Book Award for Translated Literature (2019).
Since 1901, the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded 117 times. Recent laureates include Annie Ernaux, Abdulrazak Gurnah, Louise Glück, Peter Handke, Olga Tokarczuk, and Han Kang.
