The bodies of eight Bangladeshi expatriates, who were killed in a road accident in Oman, returned home Saturday night, bringing grief to families in Sandwip and Raozan upazilas. Seven of the deceased were transported to their native villages for burial, while one was laid to rest in Raozan.

The remains arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport around 10:30 pm via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. Relatives were seen in deep mourning, with many breaking down as the bodies were handed over.
The deceased have been identified as:
Amin Majhi from Sarikait Union, Sandwip
Md Arju, Md Rocky, Sahab Uddin, Md Bablu, and Md Jewel from Maitbhanga Union, Sandwip
Md Roni from Rahmatpur, Sandwip
Alauddin, son of Yusuf, from Chikdair Union, Raozan
The seven bodies from Sandwip were taken to the Kumira ferry ghat in Sitakunda for a sea crossing to their final destinations. Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mangchingnu Marma confirmed that the bodies were handed over to families around 9:30 am on Sunday. Funeral prayers were conducted at the East Sandwip Multipurpose High School ground near Enamnahar Mar, followed by burial in the respective villages. Alauddin was buried in Chikdair village of Raozan upazila.
The tragic incident occurred on October 8 at around 4 pm in the Dukhum Sidda area of Oman, when a large fish-laden truck hit eight expatriates. Seven of them from Sandwip were killed instantly at the scene.
Family members thanked the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman, the Ambassador, and the Government of Oman for their prompt support in repatriating the bodies.
