The chiefs of Bangladesh’s three armed forces visited BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday night.
Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan went to the hospital to inquire about her health, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. Security around the hospital has been strengthened amid her ongoing treatment.
Two specialist medical teams from the United Kingdom and China are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday to assist in Begum Zia’s treatment, her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said. The UK team is expected in the morning, while the Chinese experts are set to arrive in the evening.
Begum Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital for the past 10 days. Her condition deteriorated on Sunday night, prompting doctors to shift her to the ICU. The nearly 80-year-old former prime minister has long been suffering from multiple health complications, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney issues.
She was admitted to the hospital on November 23 after experiencing breathing difficulties. Doctors later confirmed infections in her heart and lungs, and her condition worsened during treatment, necessitating close monitoring in the ICU.
