Sharif Osman Hadi, convener and spokesperson of the political platform Inqilab Moncho, has passed away while receiving treatment at Singapore General Hospital. He was critically injured after being shot earlier this month.
A senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who was coordinating Hadi’s medical treatment abroad, confirmed his death to the media on Thursday night. The Inqilab Moncho later issued an official statement through its verified Facebook page, announcing the tragic news.
Hadi’s health condition had remained extremely critical since the attack. Just a day earlier, the Chief Adviser’s press wing informed journalists that doctors were fighting to save his life, prompting widespread concern and prayers from supporters and well-wishers across social media.
According to hospital and police sources, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in the head on Friday and was initially rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical state. He was later shifted to Evercare Hospital for advanced care. On Monday afternoon, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for specialised treatment, accompanied by his brother and a medical team from Bangladesh.
Law enforcement agencies have identified Faisal Karim Masud as the main shooter in the attack. Investigators say his associate, Alamgir Sheikh, was driving the motorcycle used during the shooting. Police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) believe both suspects escaped to India illegally through a border route shortly after the incident.
So far, authorities have detained 14 individuals in connection with the case. Those arrested include Faisal’s parents—Md Humayun Kabir, 70, and Mst Hasi Begum, 60—along with his wife Saheda Parvin Samia and his brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu.
Other detainees include Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, Md Kabir, Abdul Hannan, Md Hiron, Md Razzak, Faisal’s girlfriend Maria Akter, and two suspected human traffickers, Simiron Diu and Sanjay Chisim, who allegedly helped facilitate cross-border movement at the Haluaghat border.
Investigations into the killing are ongoing, with law enforcement agencies vowing to bring all those involved to justice.
