Md. Riazul Islam has been withdrawn from his post as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Moulvibazar just a week after assuming office, according to an official notification issued on Friday, May 15.
The order, signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, instructed Riazul Islam to immediately hand over responsibilities to a senior officer of the district police and report to the Police Headquarters by May 16.
The government order, however, did not specify any reason behind his withdrawal.
Meanwhile, various discussions and allegations involving the officer recently surfaced on social media. In particular, claims regarding alleged financial transactions linked to his posting in Moulvibazar triggered criticism in different quarters.
Earlier, on May 5, the government carried out a major reshuffle of superintendents of police in 12 districts across the country. As part of that reshuffle, Md. Riazul Islam was appointed as the new SP of Moulvibazar.
His sudden withdrawal shortly after joining has sparked fresh discussions within administrative circles.
A source at the Police Headquarters said the decision was taken in the interest of maintaining administrative transparency and discipline. However, no formal investigation or official statement has yet been issued regarding the widely discussed allegations of financial irregularities.
