Rail Communication with Sylhet Restored After Oil Train Derailment in Lawachara

Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country resumed on Friday night after remaining suspended for nearly five hours following the derailment of an oil-laden freight train in the Lawachara area.
The incident took place around 3:30pm on Friday, the second day of Eid-ul-Azha, on the Bhanu GachhâSreemangal rail section. Railway sources said four wheels of a wagon of the 952 BTO oil tanker train derailed, disrupting train movement on the Sylhet route.
Following the accident, two relief trains from Kulaura and Akhaura were sent to the scene to carry out rescue and recovery operations. The line was later cleared at night, allowing train services to resume.
Passengers suffered severe inconvenience during the Eid rush as several passenger trains remained stranded at different stations. The Sylhet-bound Jayantika Express was stuck at Satgaon Station for more than three hours before leaving Sreemangal for Sylhet after 9:00pm.
Meanwhile, the Chattogram-bound Udayan Express and the Dhaka-bound Upaban Express also resumed normal operations after temporary delays.
Bhanu Gachh Railway Station Master Gour Prosad Das said an oil-laden freight train bound for Chattogram derailed in the Lawachara area. He added that railway workers conducted swift recovery operations and restored the rail line at night.
Railway authorities said the situation is now fully normal and there is no major concern regarding train operations scheduled for Saturday.
