Bangladesh Railway's Sylhet Engineering Sub-Division organised an in-house training programme on Sunday (June 7, 2026) aimed at enhancing workforce capacity, strengthening railway safety standards and improving track maintenance operations.
The training programme was conducted under the Engineering Division-2 of Bangladesh Railway's Dhaka Division and brought together officials and field-level employees responsible for maintaining railway infrastructure and ensuring safe train operations.
The event was attended by Md Ahsan Habib, Divisional Engineer-2 (DEN-2), Dhaka Division, as the chief guest, while Shoaib Ahmed, Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADEN), Sylhet, presided over the programme.
The day-long training focused on railway track inspection and maintenance, identification of track defects, accident prevention, emergency response procedures, workplace safety, and the operational responsibilities of gangmen working on the rail network. Participants were also briefed on risk management strategies and best practices for ensuring uninterrupted and safe train movement.
Speaking at the programme, Ahsan Habib emphasised that frontline maintenance personnel serve as the backbone of railway safety.
"The reliability and safety of railway operations depend largely on the professionalism, vigilance and commitment of field-level employees. Continuous training and adherence to safety protocols are essential to maintaining operational excellence," he said.
In his presidential remarks, Shoaib Ahmed stressed the importance of regular capacity-building initiatives to equip railway employees with the knowledge and skills required to meet the challenges of a rapidly modernising railway system.
"Infrastructure development alone is not enough; developing a skilled and competent workforce is equally important for ensuring sustainable and safe railway operations," he added.
Among others, Md Sohag, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEN), Sylhet, and Saifullah Riyad, Senior Section Engineer (Way), Sylhet-Kulaura-Sreemangal Section, attended the programme alongside officials and employees from various levels of the railway administration.
As part of the training initiative, first-aid kits were distributed among gangmen to improve emergency preparedness in the field. The programme also recognised outstanding professional performance by honouring Saifullah Riyad with a special commemorative award for his dedication, efficiency and contribution to railway maintenance activities.
At the conclusion of the event, participants called for the continuation of such practical and skill-based training programmes, saying they play a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiency, workplace safety and service quality.
Railway officials believe that alongside ongoing infrastructure modernisation, sustained investment in human resource development will be key to building a safer, smarter and more passenger-centric railway system in Bangladesh.
