Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel detained an employee of the Jamalganj Upazila Election Office in Sunamganj while he was allegedly attempting to enter India through the Sreemangal border in Moulvibazar on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
A patrol team from the Gutibari Border Outpost (BOP) under Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) conducted a routine operation in the Monglambasti area at around 6:30pm on Sunday to prevent illegal border crossings.

During the operation, the team detained Sushanta Chandra Biswas, 34, near border pillar No. 1939/M while he was allegedly attempting to cross the zero line and enter India, according to a BGB press release issued on Monday, September 21.

Sushanta, a resident of Sachail village in Tarail upazila of Kishoreganj, has been working at an election office since 2016. He is currently serving as a data entry operator at the Jamalganj Upazila Election Office.

According to the BGB, Sushanta had remained absent from his workplace without authorised leave for about a month. The authorities had reportedly been looking for him during this period.
BGB said further legal action would be taken.
