A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a tragic road accident involving a truck in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar on Sunday afternoon.
The accident took place in the Gobindabati area on the Moulvibazar-Kulaura regional highway.
The deceased was identified as Srikanta Malakar, son of late Sushil Malakar of Paikpara village under Tengra union in Rajnagar upazila.
According to police and local sources, the accident occurred when a Kulaura-bound truck collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact left the motorcycle completely mangled, killing the rider on the spot.
On information, members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence and police rushed to the scene and recovered the body.
Locals said the truck driver attempted to flee after the accident. However, as people chased the vehicle, the driver and his helper abandoned the truck and escaped.
Police later seized both the truck and the damaged motorcycle and took them to the police station.
Officer-in-Charge of Rajnagar Police Station, Md Farid Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, said the body was sent to the morgue for autopsy and legal procedures in connection with the accident are underway.
