Last call from train, then silence: Kulaura youth found dead after 3 days

​The body of a 23-year-old youth, who went missing while returning home to Moulvibazar’s Kulaura from Dhaka by train, was recovered from beside the railway tracks near Manu Railway Station on Friday morning, three days after he went missing.

​The deceased was identified as Jubayer Islam Jubel, son of Kasim Ali and Mocha: Jayrun Begum of North Hingajia village under Brahmanbazar union in Kulaura upazila.

​Quoting family members, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kulaura Police Station Jahirul Islam Munna said Jubayer boarded a train at Dhaka Airport Railway Station around 6:00pm on October 6 to return home. He last spoke to his family around 7:00pm when the train was passing through the Bhairab area. His mobile phone was found switched off shortly after, cutting off all communication with his family.

​Failing to contact him and with him not reaching home as scheduled, worried family members posted on social media seeking information about his whereabouts, sharing contact details.

​Locals spotted his body lying beside the railway tracks near Manu Railway Station around 10:00am on Friday and immediately alerted the police.

​On information, a police team from Kulaura Police Station rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and took it to the police station.

​Speaking on the matter around 7:15pm on Friday, Officer-in-Charge of Sreemangal Railway Police Station Md Jahangir Alam said the body was found approximately 25 feet away from the railway sleepers, placing the site outside the jurisdiction of the Railway Police. The case is being handled by Kulaura Police Station.

​Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahirul Islam Munna told The Red Times News  that  police initially suspect Jubayer died after falling from the moving train.

​The body has been sent to the morgue at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Further legal steps will be taken upon receiving the autopsy report, which will also clarify the exact cause of death,” the OC added.
