The fire broke out at around 7:15 pm yesterday, said Manjur Morshed, executive engineer of Bangladesh Power Development Board Habiganj.

He said, “The fire was brought under control within 30 to 45 minutes. Work is underway to normalize power supply.”
Another official of the Power Development Board (PDB) said that
The fire, which started after the sound of the alarm, has burnt two high-voltage circuit breakers of the power plant. He said that efforts are being made to repair them and maintain normal power supply through alternative means.
A fire broke out at Shahjibazar Power Plant in Habiganj;  Since then, the entire district has been in darkness. At about 10:30 in the morning, power was restored in Habiganj Sadar after 15 hours, and now, after about 18 hours, power is still out in Madhabpur Upazila, Lakhai and Nabiganj Upazilas.

A fire at the Shahjibazar Power Generation Station in Habiganj has completely cut off power to 6 upazilas of the district. In addition, 3 more upazilas have been partially cut off power.
The fire broke out at around 7:30 pm on Thursday (July 31). Officials of the Shahjibazar Power Generation Station said that the fire started when the city bulb of the station exploded after a mechanical fault in the Shahjibazar pit.
The upazilas that have been completely cut off power are Habiganj, Shayestaganj, Bahubal, Chunarughat, Madhabpur, Lakhai. And the upazilas that have been partially cut off power are Baniachong, Ajmiriganj, Nabiganj.
Zillur Rahman, General Manager of the Habiganj branch of Pallibidyut, confirmed this information.
Madhabpur Fire Service Station Officer Rakib Uddin Bhuiyan said that the fire broke out at the power plant due to an electrical fault during continuous rain and the fire started from there. It is initially believed that two transformers burned down, causing a loss of about one crore taka. Four units from Madhabpur and Shayestaganj stations of the Fire Service quickly reached the spot after receiving the news and were able to control the fire in half an hour.
As a result, the common people have suffered.
It is worth noting that on May 29, 2022, a fire broke out at the Shahjibazar 330 MW power generation plant in Habiganj. Several components including the transformer were burnt in the incident. Since then, electricity has been generated from a plant with a capacity of only 30 MW to 60 MW.
