The police have recovered the body of senior journalist Bibhuranjan Sarkar. Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Md. Masud Alam confirmed the matter this afternoon.
He said that members of the Nau Police outpost near the Fresh Cement Factory at Meghna Ghat recovered his body this afternoon. The body was recovered from the Kachuripana after receiving information from locals. It is believed that the body had floated from somewhere else.
DC Masud Alam also said that we have already confirmed it. Even then, to be completely sure, his family members have been sent to identify the body. If they confirm, we will send the body for autopsy.
Commenting on the matter, the police officer said that we have come to know that he did not take his mobile phone with him when he left the house. He said that we are checking the CCTV footage. We will inform you after confirming it.
It is learnt that senior journalist Bibhuranjan Sarkar (71) left his residence in Siddheshwari in the capital for the office of Ajker Patrika (Banasree) at 10 am on Thursday. He has not been found since then.
Bibhuranjan Sarkar’s son Rit Sarkar filed a general diary (GD) at Ramna Police Station last night informing about his father’s disappearance. It said that Bibhuranjan Sarkar left his mobile phone at home while going to the office yesterday. When he did not return home by 9 pm, the son contacted Kamrul Hasan, the acting editor of Ajker Patrika, and learned that he (Bibhuranjan Sarkar) had not gone to the office. After that, despite searching at various places, Bibhuranjan could not be found.
Meanwhile, Bibhuranjan Sarkar sent an email to bdnews24.comat 9:15 am on Thursday, August 21. In the footnote of which he wrote, “You can print this as the last writing of your life.
“Born in 1954, Bibhuranjan Sarkar started working as a district correspondent for the Daily Azad while he was still in school in the late 1960s. Later, he studied at the Bangla Department of Dhaka University.In his long career as a journalist, he has worked for various national dailies and weeklies. He has served as the editor of the Daily Matribhumi, the weekly Chalti Patra and the executive editor of the weekly Mridubhasan.
