Hungarian novelist László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Royal Swedish Academy announced today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 5:00 PM Bangladesh time (12:00 PM GMT) in Stockholm.

According to the Nobel Committee, Krasznahorkai was honoured “for his visionary and haunting literary works that reveal the enduring power of art even in the face of despair.”

Widely regarded as one of Europe’s most distinctive literary voices, Krasznahorkai is known for his dense, melancholic, and dystopian narratives. His celebrated novels Sátántangó and The Melancholy of Resistance were both adapted into critically acclaimed films.
Over his illustrious career, he has received several major accolades, including the Man Booker International Prize (2015) and the National Book Award for Translated Literature (2019).
