A schoolteacher in Munshiganj has been sent to jail on charges of attempting to rape a third-grade student, following a court order on Sunday.
Police said the accused, Roman Mia (35), a teacher at a local primary school, was arrested earlier in the day after the child’s father filed a case with Munshiganj Sadar Police Station.
Md Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge of the police station, told Journalists that Roman was produced before the court after being shown arrested in the case, and the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.
According to the police, the alleged incident took place on 20 November within the school premises. After returning home, the child informed her family, who immediately lodged a complaint with the school authorities.
The matter became public on Sunday morning, sparking anger among locals. An agitated crowd surrounded the school and beat the accused teacher after the allegations surfaced.
Police later reached the scene, rescued Roman Mia, and took him to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital for treatment. He was then brought to the police station, where a case was formally recorded based on the father’s complaint.
“We acted promptly once we received the allegation,” said OC Saiful Alam. “The accused was rescued from the situation and later sent to court. The overall situation is now calm.
