Swapan Kumar Singh :
Kalpana Singh, a well-known social worker from Missionpara and Chashara areas of Narayanganj and an active organiser of the Ramakrishna Mission, passed away on Friday night. She was 56.
She breathed her last at around 8:23pm on March 20 while undergoing treatment at Pro-Active Medical College and Hospital Limited, family sources said.
Her last rites were performed in the early hours of March 22 at Masdair Central City Crematorium. The cremation began around 1:30am and concluded at approximately 3:30am, attended by hundreds of relatives, well-wishers, and locals who gathered to pay their final respects.
Born to Monmohon Chandra and Charan Dashi, Kalpana Singh was the third among nine siblings. She is survived by her husband Nirmal Singh, three sons—Sumon Singh, Sabuj Singh, and Shuvo Singh—as well as several grandchildren and numerous relatives.
Swapan Kumar Singh, a journalist associated with Asian Age, Red Times, and BDNews24, expressed deep grief at her passing. “She was not just a family member but a source of inspiration. Her warmth, kindness, and ever-smiling presence made her beloved to all. Her loss is irreparable for us,” he said.
Hospital sources said she was under the care of Associate Professor Dr AKM Ferdous Rahman, a specialist in critical care medicine. Her laboratory reports indicated elevated levels of creatinine and troponin-I, suggesting serious complications related to kidney and heart functions. Despite best efforts by physicians, she could not be saved.
Residents of Missionpara, Chashara, Debuk, Amalapara, Pagla, and Isdair remembered her as a compassionate, generous, and deeply religious person. Her sudden demise has cast a pall of grief over the community.
Meanwhile, her relatives in Sreemangal are also mourning her loss. Family members described her as the emotional anchor of the household, whose absence has left a void that words can scarcely express. Many broke down in tears recalling her affection and warmth, whispering in disbelief—why did she have to leave so soon?
