Rail communication on the Dhaka–Chattogram route was disrupted for nearly an hour on Sunday, June 7, 2026 morning after a sand-laden truck collided with the Sylhet-bound intercity Paharika Express in the Madhyam Sonapahar area of Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram.
According to railway sources, the accident took place at around 9:00am on June 7, 2026 (Sunday) when the truck attempted to cross the railway line and suddenly came in front of the Chattogram-to-Sylhet-bound Paharika Express. The impact caused the truck to overturn and become stranded on the tracks, forcing authorities to suspend train operations temporarily.
Md Sirajul Islam, station master of Chinki Astana Railway Station, confirmed that no passengers or railway staff were injured in the incident on June 7, 2026. However, train movement on both lines remained suspended until the overturned vehicle was cleared from the railway track.
Farhan Mahmud, divisional transport officer of Eastern Railway, said the train and passengers remained safe. After rescue and clearance operations were completed, the Paharika Express resumed its journey towards Sylhet at around 10:30am on June 7, 2026, restoring normal rail services on the route.
Local residents alleged that reckless movement of heavy vehicles and unauthorized crossing of railway tracks continue to increase the risk of such accidents in the region. They urged authorities to strengthen monitoring and take stricter safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Railway officials said swift response and clearance work helped restore normal train operations quickly on Sunday, June 7, 2026, minimizing disruption to passengers despite the temporary suspension of rail services.
