An unidentified teenage boy was crushed to death by an intercity train at the Shayestaganj–Laskarpur railway section in Habiganj on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 2:30pm near level crossing gate No. E/51, between railway kilometer markers 261/5–6, when the 719 Chattogram-bound “Paharika Express” ran over the teenager, said Md Moniruzzaman, Sub-Inspector of Shayestaganj Railway Police Station.
“The boy, aged around 15–16, died on the spot after coming under the wheels of the train,” the SI told reporters.
On receiving the information, railway police visited the scene, prepared an inquest report and a sketch map. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Habiganj, has been informed to help identify the victim.
As of filing this report, the body—wrapped in white cloth—was kept on the railway platform beside the station, SI Moniruzzaman confirmed.
Shayestaganj Station Master Litton Chandra Dey has issued an official memo to the railway police for necessary procedures. Legal steps are underway, railway police added.
