At least three people were killed and around 30 others injured after two passenger buses collided head-on in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj district on Tuesday (4 November 2025). The accident took place around 12:00 pm at Kadamtali point on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway.
According to witnesses, a Dhaka-bound Ena Paribahan bus collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound Royal Coach bus when the Ena bus attempted to overtake a truck. The impact left both vehicles heavily damaged, trapping several passengers inside.
On information, units from Shayestaganj Fire Service and Highway Police reached the spot and began rescue operations. Two passengers died on the spot. The injured were taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where another injured passenger succumbed to his injuries.
Ariful Islam, Station Officer of Shayestaganj Fire Service, said,
“We recovered two bodies from the spot. Several passengers were trapped inside the bus, and we had to cut parts of the vehicle to rescue them.”
Shayestaganj Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Taher Dewan confirmed the incident and said,
“The accident occurred due to reckless speed and attempted overtaking. The bodies have been sent to the morgue, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased.”
Dr. Momen Uddin Chowdhury, Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of Habiganj Sadar Hospital, said,”Around 30 injured passengers are receiving treatment. The condition of several victims is critical.”
Traffic movement on the highway was halted for some time following the accident but later resumed.
