Fire service personnel successfully rescued two-year-old Sajid, who fell into an abandoned deep well pipe in Tanore, Rajshahi. The child is alive and has been taken to Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (Dec 10) when Sajid was walking with his mother, Runa Khatun, near a field in Koelhat village. He accidentally fell into the uncovered well pipe and called out to his mother. Local residents initially tried to rescue him but failed, prompting the fire service from Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj to launch a rescue operation.

Using a camera, the fire service scanned about 35 feet down the pipe but could not locate the child. They then dug through the surrounding area overnight and attempted to tunnel into the well, but the search remained unsuccessful. Finally, at 8:50pm Thursday, Sajid was rescued alive.

Locals explained that the well had been dug about a year ago for irrigation but was covered when water did not fill it. Recent rains had eroded the soil, exposing the opening, which led to the accident.

Sajid’s mother said, “I was walking with my son when suddenly he shouted ‘Ma’. I turned and saw him missing, calling for me from inside the hole.”
