A woman was strangled to death at her rented house in the Shimla Bazar area of Sarishabari municipality in Jamalpur early Thursday. The victim, Lipi Akter (35), was the wife of Maher Uddin, an assistant sub-inspector of police currently posted with RAB-2.
According to police, the incident occurred around 5:30am when intruders broke into the house. Sarishabari Police Station OC Bacchu Mia confirmed the incident, saying that the assailants allegedly strangled Lipi with a scarf after she recognized them during the break-in.
Lipi’s daughter Mithi said she and her mother were asleep when the intruders entered. Her two brothers were staying at their uncle’s house that night. After the attackers fled, family members rushed Lipi to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Locals said Lipi had been living in the area with her three children, and that the neighborhood had seen two earlier burglary attempts due to its quiet surroundings.
