Two rear coaches of the Dhaka-bound Egarsindur Provhati train were detached near Pubail Railway Station in Gazipur on Monday, narrowly avoiding a major accident. No casualties were reported in the incident, railway police said.
The incident occurred around 11:00am on the Tongi–Bhairab railway route, moments before the train was entering Pubail Railway Station. Railway sources said the coupling joint connecting the last two coaches suddenly came loose, causing them to separate from the rest of the train.
Sensing the problem, the train was immediately brought to a halt, preventing any further mishap.
Following the incident, railway officials and staff rushed to the spot and quickly brought the situation under control, thereby averting a serious accident.
Arikhola Railway Station Master Manik Mia told the media that the incident took place due to the detachment of the coach coupling. When asked about the impact on rail traffic, he said further details would be shared later.
Meanwhile, Nazim Uddin, inspector-in-charge of the Narsingdi Railway Police Outpost, said an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause behind the detachment of the coaches.
