January 12, 2026 – Police have arrested two Ansar members over the alleged rape of a woman at Manikganj General Hospital, officials confirmed to reporters. District Police Superintendent Mohammad Sarwar Alam provided the details.
The accused have been identified as Shahadat Hossain and Abu Saeed. According to police sources, on Sunday night, January 11, a couple was travelling from Narayanganj to Betila in Manikganj. Around 2:00 am, their battery-operated van ran out of charge, forcing them to stop at the hospital. On duty at the hospital, the Ansar members allegedly offered assistance and took the woman inside.
Police Superintendent Sarwar Alam said the men left the husband on the ground floor and took the woman to the second floor, where they reportedly threatened and raped her. The woman later informed her husband, and the couple filed a complaint at Manikganj police station.
Police arrested the two accused Ansar members at the scene. The woman is currently undergoing medical examinations at the hospital.
Kamruzzaman, District Commandant of Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), told reporters that the accused have been dismissed. A two-member committee, headed by Upazila Ansar and VDP officer Shamima Akter, has been formed to investigate the incident.
Manikganj General Hospital in-charge Dr. Mohammad Bahaudin said legal action will be taken against the accused, and the woman remains under hospital care.
