A workshop on gender equality and women’s empowerment was held at Elbintila Khasi Punji under Fultola Union of Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar. The workshop was organized by the Middle and South Bangladesh Child Development Project (BD-0430), operated by the international organization Compassion International Bangladesh.
The workshop took place on Thursday (15 January) afternoon at the project office premises. It was chaired by Project Chairman Suwing Amlenrong and conducted by Child Protection Officer (CPO) Michael Nongrum. The Upazila Social Services Officer, Abdullah Al Mahmud Chowdhury, attended as the chief guest. The main discussant was Nepur Chandra Das, Child Protection Social Worker of the Upazila Social Services Department.
In his speech, main discussant Nepur Chandra Das said that sustainable development is not possible without women’s empowerment. Through education and economic empowerment, women can bring positive change to families and society. He also emphasized the need for awareness and proper enforcement of laws to eliminate violence, child marriage, and social superstitions.
Others present at the event included Union Social Worker Biddut Kanti Das of the Upazila Social Services Department, Project Manager Dico Surong, Accountant Rajen Rupshi, Social Worker Bonna Longdoh, Child Development Workers Abida Nongrum, Tariang Khongboh, Fayency Pokynteng, among others.
More than two hundred parents of beneficiaries participated in the workshop.
