A worker was killed and three others suffered critical burn injuries in a compressor explosion at a private industrial factory in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar last night.
The incident occurred around 11:00pm on Saturday (January 17) at Roshmi Poly Fiber Industries Ltd, located in the Rajpara area under Bhunabir Union.
The deceased was identified as Asadul Islam, 45, a resident of Gaibandha district. The injured include Tamim Mia, 25, from Bogura, Hakim Mia, 27, from Sirajganj, while the identity of another injured worker could not be confirmed immediately.
Eyewitnesses said a sudden loud explosion shook the factory premises and nearby areas, triggering panic among local residents who rushed out of their homes. Hundreds gathered outside the factory following the blast, but access to the site was restricted due to safety concerns.
Fire Service teams, police and local administration officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The cause of the explosion, however, could not be determined immediately.
Hospital sources said the injured workers were first taken to the Sree
mangal Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment. As their condition deteriorated, they were later shifted to Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital for advanced care.
Police said they had visited the site and recovered the body of the deceased, which was sent to the district hospital morgue for autopsy. Additional police were deployed in the area to maintain law and order. No statement was available from the factory authorities as of last night.
