Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has said that the Bangladesh Police will demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, neutrality and responsibility during the upcoming national parliamentary election.
He made the remarks while addressing Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) probationers of the 27th BCS (Police) batch at the “Hall of Integrity” at Police Headquarters yesterday (January 27).
The IGP said the police force is currently passing through a crucial phase, adding that continuous efforts are underway to strengthen the morale of officers and restore public trust in the institution.
Congratulating the newly joined ASP probationers, he noted that their appointment is not merely a personal achievement but also a significant milestone in restoring their long-denied legitimate rights. He said years of deprivation came to an end through the student–people-led anti-discrimination movement, which ultimately ensured their lawful recruitment.
Referring to the officers’ prior professional experiences, the IGP said these would serve as a valuable source of guidance and strength in their future careers.
Highlighting emerging challenges, he said crimes are increasingly expanding into cyberspace, while public opinion is being shaped rapidly through social media platforms. In this context, he stressed that traditional or physically driven policing alone is no longer sufficient.
“Intelligence, a global outlook and the ability to adapt to modern technology are now essential,” he said, adding that as future leaders of the Bangladesh Police, the officers’ integrity and professionalism must also be reflected in the digital domain.
The IGP urged the ASP probationers to undergo training at the Bangladesh Police Academy with strict adherence to discipline, punctuality and existing rules and regulations.
It was disclosed at the programme that the probationers include 60 officers from the 27th BCS (Police) batch, one from the 28th batch and six from the 43rd batch.
Additional Inspector Generals A K M Aowlad Hossain (Administration), Md Akram Hossain (Finance), Khondoker Rafiqul Islam (Crime and Operations), Musleh Uddin Ahmed (Logistics) and Sardar Nurul Amin (Development) were present at the event.
Notably, the officers of the 27th BCS (Police) batch had remained deprived of appointment for a long time and were finally recruited recently following the conclusion of a prolonged legal process.
