A doa mahfil was held in London seeking eternal peace for the late journalist Kaisarul Islam Suman, a senior member of the London Bangla Press Club and Birmingham Bureau Chief of ATN Bangla UK.
Organised by the London Bangla Press Club, the prayer gathering took place after Maghrib prayers on Friday (February 7) at Brick Lane Jame Mosque. Special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the departed soul, alongside supplications for the welfare of the nation and the wider community. The doa was conducted by the mosqueâs assistant imam, Hafiz Matiul Haque.
At the beginning of the programme, the newly elected President of the London Bangla Press Club, Barrister Tarek Chowdhury, paid tribute to the late journalist, highlighting his professional integrity and contributions to Bangla journalism in the UK. He expressed profound grief over the loss and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The clubâs newly elected General Secretary, Akramul Hossain, thanked the attending journalists and guests, expressing appreciation to all concerned for the successful organisation of the doa mahfil.
Among those present were former presidents of the London Bangla Press Club Nawab Uddin, Muhammad Emdadul Haque Chowdhury and Muhammad Zubair, along with senior vice-president Taisir Mahmud, vice-president Ahad Chowdhury Babu, treasurer Md Abdul Hannan, assistant secretary Abdul Qadir Chowdhury Murad, assistant treasurer Ekhlachur Rahman Pakku, media and IT secretary Faisal Mahmud, and executive member Md Enamul Haque Chowdhury.
A number of senior journalists and media professionals also attended the programme, while several members from Birmingham joined the prayers virtually through video conferencing.
Kaisarul Islam Suman passed away on February 4 while visiting Bangladesh with his family. He suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Barlekha, Moulvibazar. His death has cast a pall of gloom over the expatriate Bangladeshi journalism community in the UK.
