At least six people, including an Assistant Presiding Officer, were killed and 17 others injured in separate road accidents across Sherpur, Faridpur, and Bagerhat districts.
SherpurIn Sherpur, 31-year-old Assistant Presiding Officer Rokonuzzaman Rokon lost his life while on duty for the 13th parliamentary elections. Another victim, 19-year-old Mahfuza Khatun, also died in the crash.
The accident occurred around 11:30 am on Wednesday when a mini-truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Sherpur-Jamalpur regional road. All the injured were passengers of the auto-rickshaw.
Sherpur Sadar police officer-in-charge Sohel Rana confirmed that the victims were rushed to the Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced Rokonuzzaman and Mahfuza dead. Rokonuzzaman was a junior instructor at Sherpur Polytechnic Institute and had been assigned as Assistant Presiding Officer at Madhabpur Government Primary School polling center. Mahfuza was a resident of Madarganj Upazila in Jamalpur district. A case has been filed at the local police station.
Faridpur In Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila, two people died and at least 11 others were injured when a passenger bus, named Narail Express, overturned on the Dhaka-Khulna highway near Suyadi village around 1 pm while traveling from Dhaka to Narail.
Bhanga Highway police OC Md Helal Uddin said authorities are trying to identify the deceased. The bus has been seized. According to fire service official Sentu Howlader, the bus was speeding and lost control while taking a left turn. The injured have been admitted to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
BagerhatIn Bagerhat, two young men—Kader Khan (27) and Lablul Molla (30) of Mongla Upazila—were killed in a head-on collision between a Mahindra vehicle and a goods truck early Tuesday morning on the Khulna-Mongla highway at Chulkathi-Chaltatola.
Katakhali Highway police OC Zafar Ahmed confirmed that three people were injured and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The truck has been seized, but its driver fled the scene.
