Labor and Employment and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, I want to work as a servant of the people, not as a minister. Stating that I have come to this stage with the cooperation and unwavering support of the people in the past, he sought everyone’s cooperation in discharging his duties with honesty and devotion in the future as well.
He said these things in response to questions from journalists after exchanging greetings with officials and party leaders and activists of various government departments at Sylhet Circuit House on Thursday, February 19.
Expressing his gratitude to the people of all walks of life in his parliamentary constituency, the minister said, “The Prime Minister has given me the responsibility of a minister because the people elected me with a huge vote.” He also said that Sylhet is an expatriate-dominated area and the issue of expatriates is also specifically mentioned in the party’s election manifesto. Accordingly, short, medium and long-term action plans are being formulated on a priority basis and activities will be started quickly as per the plan.’
In response to a question from journalists regarding the launch of the Sylhet-Manchester flight, the minister said, ‘A meeting will be held with all the ministers and members of parliament of Sylhet to identify the long-standing problems of the district, including the launch of the Sylhet-Manchester flight. After that, effective steps will be taken to solve these problems collectively.’
On this occasion, MP Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam, and leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its affiliates of Sylhet district and metropolis were present.
Earlier, when the minister arrived at the Sylhet Osmani International Airport, officials of various government departments and party leaders and activists greeted him with flowers.
