G. K. Goush, a lawmaker from Habiganj-3 and a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been appointed as a Whip of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The appointment was made through a presidential order issued on Monday. According to a notification signed by Kaniz Mawla, Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, six members of parliament have been entrusted with the responsibilities of Whip to help conduct parliamentary business smoothly.
Apart from Goush, the other newly appointed Whips are Rokibul Islam (Khulna-3), Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (Shariatpur-3), Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu (Natore-2), Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia (Dinajpur-4) and ABM Ashraf Uddin (Nizam) from Laxmipur-4.
Meanwhile, Nurul Islam Moni, MP from Barguna-2, has been appointed as the Chief Whip.
In parliamentary practice, Whips play a crucial role in maintaining party discipline, ensuring the presence of lawmakers during important sessions, and coordinating legislative activities. They also act as a key liaison between party leadership and members inside the House.
Goush, a veteran politician, previously served as mayor of Habiganj municipality and has held important organisational positions within the BNP. His appointment is seen by party insiders as recognition of his political experience and organisational capabilities.
With the new appointments in place, parliamentary observers expect more structured floor coordination and smoother legislative proceedings in the days ahead.
