Aniruddha Das, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Sylhet, visited the Sri Sri Prabhu Jagadbandhu Ashram and Mission in Sreemangal on Tuesday, reaffirming the cultural and people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and India.
The visit took place at around 10:00am at the ashram located in the Uttarsur area under Sadar Union of Sreemangal upazila. He was accompanied by Rajesh Bhatia, Secretary (Press, Information, Culture and Education) at the Assistant High Commission of India in Sylhet.
After visiting the temple premises, the guests participated in a views-exchange meeting organised by the ashram authorities.
The meeting was presided over by Bandhu Pritam Brahmachari, founding president of the ashram. Among the distinguished attendees were Dipendra Chandra Bhattacharjee, former president of the Sreemangal unit of the Citizens’ Committee (Shonak) of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and a noted educationist; Nripendra Lal Das, eminent poet, litterateur and professor; Dr Satyakam Chakraborty, former director of the Health Directorate under the Directorate General of Health Services; and Abinash Acharya, assistant professor at Balaganj Degree College.
Addressing the gathering, Aniruddha Das said, “Today you have honoured the Indian High Commission’s Sylhet office. Through that office, you have also honoured the friendly relations between our two friendly nations — India and Bangladesh. I hope this friendship will continue to grow stronger. Being here today and engaging in mutual discussions with you is our greatest gain.”
At the conclusion of the event, the chief guest Aniruddha Das and special guest Rajesh Bhatia were accorded floral greetings and presented with traditional uttariyas as a mark of respect.
The programme was conducted by journalist SK Das Suman, Sreemangal correspondent of Dainik Kalbela. The event began with a captivating dance performance by artistes of Sreemangal Nrityangan and Nattyabed Nritya Niketan.
The visit was seen as a goodwill gesture, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural connections and longstanding bilateral friendship between the two neighbouring countries.
