To ensure safe and hassle-free travel ahead of Eid, the local administration and law enforcement agencies conducted a joint drive at Shayestaganj Railway Station in Habiganj on Monday.
The operation was carried out from 3:15pm to 4:30pm on March 16 in and around the station premises.
The drive was led by Shayestaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Nahid Hossain, while Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Arifur Rahman Shanto was also present.
Members of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB), and Shayestaganj Police Station participated in the drive.
The main objective of the operation was to ensure that train passengers do not face any form of harassment and can travel safely and comfortably to their destinations during the upcoming Eid journey. Authorities also maintained strict vigilance to prevent ticket black marketing, snatching incidents, robberies around the platform or on train rooftops, and the presence of drug addicts in the station area.
Among others present were Officer-in-Charge of Shayestaganj Police Station Abul Kalam, Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the railway police, Station Master Liton Chandra Dey, and other officials from the administration.
Station Master Liton Chandra Dey said that, following directives from the Railway Ministry, such drives are being conducted at the upazila level to ensure passenger safety and keep railway stations free from snatching, drugs and ticket black marketing.
UNO Md Nahid Hossain instructed the station authorities to strengthen ticket checking and ensure that no one enters the station premises without a valid ticket. He also asked them to inform Shayestaganj Police Station or the GRP if necessary so that immediate action can be taken.
The administration said such drives will continue in the coming days to ensure a smooth and secure Eid journey for passengers.
