A man and his son were killed in a tragic road accident after their motorcycle rammed into the rear of a moving truck on the Poddarbari bypass road in Habiganj town late Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Kaiyum, 55, a grocery trader from Sultan Mahmudpur area of Habiganj Sadar upazila, and his son Zakir Hossain, 20.
According to locals, Abdul Kaiyum had gone to Dhuliyakhal with his son for medical purposes. While returning home around 11:00pm, their motorcycle reportedly lost control near the Poddarbari bypass area and slammed into the back of a moving truck.
The impact left the motorcycle badly mangled, critically injuring both riders. Locals rescued them and rushed them to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The accident sparked anger among locals, who later set the truck on fire. Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control.
Officer-in-Charge of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station, Zahid Hossain, said police reached the spot immediately after receiving information and brought the situation under control.
The bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. The truck involved in the accident has been seized, and legal action is underway, the OC added.
