Fifteen-year-old rights activist Tufayel Ahmed from Balaganj, Sylhet, has been nominated for the 2025 International Children’s Peace Prize, organized by the Netherlands-based KidsRights Foundation.
According to the organization’s website, Tufayel was nominated for his outstanding work in climate justice, environmental protection, digital safety, and education.
A student of Balaganj Government Dwarakanath High School, Tufayel founded a science club to promote STEM learning among children and inspire creativity and problem-solving skills. He has also led awareness campaigns on child safety, early marriage prevention, and equal access to education, encouraging girls to stay in school and pursue science.
Tufayel is the author of two books — A Manual to Modern Physics and A Journey to the Center of the DNA — simplifying complex scientific topics for young learners. Over a thousand students have participated in his workshops and mentoring programs, some of whom have gone on to compete in national and international contests.
He has also developed eco-friendly innovations, including a solar-powered eco-hub vehicle, biodegradable plastic made from carbon dioxide, and a low-cost portable water purification system.
Tufayel was a finalist in the World Innovation Science Project Olympiad (WISPO) and the International Youth Research Innovation Competition (IYRIC), and was a global nominee at NASA’s 2024 Space Apps Challenge.
