Popular young adult thriller writer Rakib Hasan, known for the beloved Teen Goenda series, passed away on Wednesday afternoon at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi. The hospital’s Vice Principal, Dr. Mohibullah Khandakar, confirmed the news. He said,
“Rakib Hasan regularly came to our hospital for kidney dialysis. He was here today as well, but he passed away just before starting his session.”Brief Biography
Rakib Hasan was born on December 12, 1950, in Comilla. Due to his father’s job transfers, he spent his childhood in Feni, where he completed his school education before enrolling at Victoria College, Comilla. After trying different jobs, he eventually devoted himself to writing.
Over his lifetime, he wrote more than 400 books, including translations of world classics, as well as popular children’s series like Tarzan, Goenda Raju, and Reza-Suja. However, he is most fondly remembered as the creator of the Teen Goenda series, which has left a lasting mark on generations of young readers.
Health and Final Days
In his later years, Hasan suffered from kidney failure and underwent dialysis four times a month. His son, Rahid Hasan, revealed that his father’s blood group, A negative, was difficult to find, and the treatment involved expenses beyond their means.
Legacy The passing of Rakib Hasan is a huge loss for Bangladeshi children’s literature. The Teen Goenda series continues to color the childhood of millions of readers, cementing his legacy as one of the country’s most cherished storytellers.
