The fire that broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday afternoon was brought under control after several hours of effort.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the blaze originated near Gate No. 8 around 2:15pm and was fully contained by 9:18pm. Thirty-six firefighting units worked to douse the flames.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism said in a statement that the fire was controlled through coordinated action by the Fire Service and airport authorities. No casualties have been reported.
Flight operations were suspended during the incident but resumed at 9:20pm after safety clearance. Several incoming flights were temporarily diverted to Chattogram and Sylhet airports.
An adviser to the ministry was present at the scene and monitored the situation closely. Authorities have announced that a probe will be launched to determine the cause of the fire and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
