Dr. Dhandeb Barman, in charge of the casualty operation theatre at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, has been temporarily relieved of his duties following an altercation with the Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Dr. Abu Jafar. The incident took place on Saturday morning during the DG’s inspection of the casualty OT, where he questioned the presence of a table inside the room. A heated exchange followed, parts of which were captured on video and later circulated on social media. In the video, the DG is heard warning the doctor about his manner of speaking and raising concerns about how he might treat patients. Dr. Dhandeb, however, claimed that he behaves well with patients and pointed out the DG’s absence at a scheduled training session in Dhaka. Following the incident, the hospital authorities issued a show-cause notice, asking him to submit a written explanation within 24 hours. Hospital Director Brig Gen Md Golam Ferdous said the doctor’s behavior was unexpected, although he later apologized. The DG, however, remarked that the doctor was “not fit” for the responsibilities of the position before leaving the spot.
