Homna, Comilla — An auto-rickshaw driver, Shanto Chandra Das (18), was brutally murdered in Homna upazila. Shanto, the son of Arun Chandra Das from Bijoynagar village, was found dead on Friday (December 12) morning in a maize field near Kararkandi-Baher Khola road of Homna municipality. His throat had been slit, police reported.
Family members and locals suspect that the killing may have been linked to an attempted theft of Shanto’s auto-rickshaw. His elder brother, Antu Chandra Das, said, “Shanto left home with his auto-rickshaw in the afternoon. When his phone was found switched off Thursday night, we searched in various places but could not find him. On Friday morning, we learned from the police that a body with a slit throat had been recovered from Kararkandi. We identified the body as our brother.
It seems the criminals killed him and took away his rickshaw and belongings.”
Officer-in-Charge of Homna Police Station, Morshedul Alam Chowdhury, confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. He added that a case has been filed and the investigation is ongoing. However, no suspects have been arrested so far.
Although three days have passed since the murder, police are still conducting investigations. The authorities said they would proceed further once the post-mortem report is available. Shanto’s family has demanded justice and urged the police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to account.
