At least nine people, including a mother and her infant daughter, were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents across five districts of Bangladesh on Friday.
The fatal crashes occurred in Tangail, Kushtia, Narsingdi, Patuakhali and Kurigram, police and hospital sources said.
In Tangail’s Mirzapur, a stationary private car was hit by a truck on the Dhaka–Tangail highway around 6:30pm, killing Sadia Kabir (32) and her 10-month-old daughter Tajri Kabir Priyom, residents of Feni. The car driver and two others were injured and taken to hospital.
In Kushtia’s Bheramara, two motorbike riders—Rashid (20) and Siam (20)—were killed when a goods-laden pickup van ran over their motorcycle in the evening.
In Narsingdi, an unidentified woman was killed after being run over by a bus while crossing the Dhaka–Sylhet highway.
The infant she was carrying sustained injuries. Earlier in the day, another accident in the district left pickup driver Rubel (30) dead following a head-on collision with a covered van, while two others were injured.
In Dumki upazila of Patuakhali, a head-on collision between an autorickshaw and a cement-laden tomtom claimed the life of six-year-old Rabiul on the spot. Another victim, Ibrahim Khan (60), died later at a hospital. Two others were critically injured.
In Bhurungamari of Kurigram, a passenger bus collided with a motorcycle, killing Faruk Ahmed (30) and critically injuring his companion, police said.
Law enforcement officials said the vehicles involved in the accidents have been seized. Preliminary investigations suggest dense fog and driver negligence may have contributed to several of the crashes.
