Two killed, at least 10 injured in three-bus collision in Sylhet’s Osmaninagar

At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in a three-bus collision on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet early today.
The accident occurred around 7:00am at Dayamir Konapara area of the upazila when three passenger buses collided head-on amid dense fog, police and witnesses said.
According to the Highway Police, a Shyamoli Paribahan bus travelling from Gaibandha to Sylhet first collided with an Ena Paribahan bus coming from Sylhet towards Dhaka. Moments later, a third bus of Unique Paribahan, which was following the Ena bus, rammed into it.
As a result of the collision, the front windshield of the Unique Paribahan bus shattered, while the Shyamoli and Ena buses suffered extensive damage.
Two people were killed on the spot. The deceased were identified as Mujibur Rahman (55), a supervisor of Shyamoli Paribahan from Dashai Hawladar village of Naria upazila in Shariatpur, and Bakul Rabidash (26), a helper of the same bus and a resident of Karua area in Osmaninagar upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Osmaninagar Police Station Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan said police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot after receiving the information and conducted rescue operations.
“The injured were rescued and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Sylhet Region Highway Police Superintendent Md Rezaul Karim said dense fog is suspected to have played a role in the accident.
“The exact cause of the crash is being investigated, and legal action is underway,” he added.
Following the accident, traffic movement on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway was disrupted for some time. Police later restored normal traffic flow.
At present, the bodies of the deceased and the two severely damaged buses are being kept in police custody. A pall of grief has descended over the area following the tragic incident.
