At least eight people were killed in separate road accidents in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Rangpur and Jhenaidah.
Rajshahi (Puthia):
Three people, including a university student, were killed when a bus collided with a battery-powered auto-rickshaw on the Rajshahi–Natore highway in the Pollapukur area of Puthia on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased student was identified as Shanto Islam, a student of Barendra University, who died on the spot. Two others — a man and a woman — succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital. Following the accident, angry students and locals blocked the highway, causing long traffic congestion.
Dhaka:
Two friends were killed after a truck hit their motorcycle in the Shonir Akhra area of Jatrabari late at night. The victims were Khairul Hossain Kamrul (20), a college student, and Yasin Rana (27), a motorcycle mechanic.
Munshiganj:
A pickup van driver was killed after being hit by a bus on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in the Kuchiamora area of Sirajdikhan. Another person was seriously injured in the incident. Police said the identity of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
Rangpur:
Ashraful Alam Nayan (40), a garment worker, was killed after a truck ran over him near the Haldibari rail gate in Kaunia. He was employed at a garment factory in Dhaka.
Jhenaidah:
A cyclist, Mufa Malitha (40), was killed on the spot after being hit by a truck in the Gabla area of Shailkupa while he was heading towards Jhenaidah town from Bhatai Bazar.
