A female student of Chittagong University (CU) was injured after stones were thrown at a university shuttle train on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 11:30am near the Cantonment Railway Station area in Chattogram.
The injured student has been identified as Imu Moni Jyoti, a 2020–21 session student of the university’s Department of International Relations.According to university sources, Jyoti was travelling on a campus-bound shuttle train from Sholoshahar Railway Station when a stone thrown from outside hit her on the face as the train reached the Cantonment area. She sustained a deep injury extending from below her nose to her upper lip.
Fellow passengers immediately rushed her to the Chittagong University Medical Centre, where she was given primary treatment. She was later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced care due to the severity of her injury. After receiving treatment, she was taken home.
The acting medical officer of the university medical centre said the injury was relatively deep, which is why the student was referred to a specialised hospital after initial treatment.
Confirming the incident, a university assistant proctor said the administration is aware of the matter and termed it unfortunate. He added that necessary steps would be taken to address the issue and prevent such incidents in the future.
