Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 11.7 million during separate drives conducted along different border points in Sylhet on Saturday.
According to BGB officials, the operations were carried out by the 48 Battalion in areas under its jurisdiction, including Bichanakandi, Protapur, Dumdumiah, Patharkwari, Sripur and Banglabazar border outposts (BOPs).
During the raids, BGB personnel confiscated cattle and buffaloes along with a large quantity of cumin, betel nut, oranges, malta, grapes, onions and olive oil. A truck allegedly used to transport the contraband goods was also seized.
The estimated market value of the recovered items has been fixed at Tk 11.7 million, officials said.
Commanding Officer of BGB 48 Battalion confirmed the matter, adding that the force continues its intelligence-based operations to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking along the border.
Legal procedures are underway to dispose of the seized goods in accordance with existing laws, the official added.
