Three members of a family were killed in a tragic road accident in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat while travelling home for Eid.
The accident took place around 7:00am on Tuesday 17 March 2026 on the Patgram–Lalmonirhat highway, in front of Mirzarkot Model Mosque.
The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, 38, his wife Sumaiya Akter, 32, and their four-month-old son Abdullah Al Huzaifa. Shariful was a resident of Monsapur village in Hili under Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur and worked as an assistant manager at a private development organisation in Patgram.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the family was heading to their village home on a motorcycle to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. When they reached the Mirzarkot area, a truck bound for Burimari land port collided with their motorcycle.
Sumaiya Akter died on the spot, while Shariful Islam and their infant son died on the way to Patgram Upazila Health Complex.
Their other child, Shoaib Hossain, 10, was critically injured and has been sent to Rangpur for advanced treatment.
Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak of Barakhata Highway Police said the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest him.
Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque of Patgram Police Station said the bodies have been kept at the upazila health complex, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being reviewed to trace the vehicle involved.
