Seeking a place to rest, the victims sat on the nearby railway tracks running parallel to the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway.

While they were talking, the Dhaka-bound ‘Sirajganj Express’ was passing through the area. Unaware of the approaching train, the victims were crushed under its wheels before they could move to safety. All five died on the spot.

Official Statement
Confirming the incident, Mohammad Ruhani, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station, and Mizanur Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tangail Railway Station Outpost, said the victims were caught off guard.

”The passengers were sitting on the tracks because their bus had run out of fuel. It appears to be a case of tragic inadvertence,” SI Mizan told reporters.
