Nine more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In a statement issued today, the health authority said the deaths were recorded between 8:00am Friday and 8:00am Saturday, raising the total death toll linked to the outbreak to 352.
Among the latest fatalities, three children died after being confirmed with measles infection. All of them were from Barishal Division. With these new deaths, the number of confirmed measles-related fatalities has risen to 61.
The remaining six children died with measles symptoms. Of them, three were from Dhaka Division, two from Khulna Division, and one from Sylhet Division. The total number of deaths associated with measles symptoms has now climbed to 291.
The DGHS also reported 489 new confirmed measles cases during the same period, taking the total number of infections nationwide to 6,979.
Meanwhile, another 946 children were identified with measles-like symptoms over the past 24 hours. So far, symptoms related to the disease have been detected in 47,656 children across the country.
